On Thursday 22 February, the award "För nit och redlighet i rikets tjänst ("Zealous and Devoted Service of the Kingdom") for 2023 was presented at the Swedish Society of Medicine. A total of 30 employees at KI were recognized for their long and impeccable service. During the ceremony, Gunnar Nilsson and John Skår, recipients of KI's Silver Medal 2023, were also honoured.

Anne Heikkinen Sandberg is to be KI’s new master of ceremonies. She has been accompanying retiring master of ceremonies Ylva Blomberg since 5 December and with ten years’ experience from the corresponding office at Stockholm University, she looks forward to administering and promoting KI’s ceremonies.

In the 14 years that Ylva Blomberg has been KI’s master of ceremonies, new doctors, professors and prize-winners have enjoyed a blend of tradition and merry-making. As she heads to retirement on 30 January, she looks back on her 33 years at KI and forward to more time for life’s desserts – and her electric guitar.

KI researcher Birgitta Henriques Normark is a newly elected fellow of IVA (the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences). IVA works to build bridges between academia, business and politics, and promotes people's ability to make a positive contribution to society through technical and economic sciences.

Diplomas, salutes and fanfares for 155 new KI doctors and 13 jubilee doctors! 10 November was a day of celebration, as they received their accolades to much pomp and ceremony in front of 1,000 guests in Stockholm City Hall’s Blue Hall.

Karolinska Institutet organizes every fall an Installation Ceremony where new professors at KI are presented and academic prizes are awarded. Leader for the research group Global Child Health and the Sustainable Development Goals Tobias Alfvén was one of the 17 new professors that were ceremoniously installed at KI on 12 October.

First the hot dogs – then the diplomas, speeches, fanfares and applause. Tradition prevailed on 12 October as 17 new professors were ceremoniously installed at KI.

The air is buzzing with anticipation. Floral displays, long gowns and evening dress, and almost 900 chairs waiting for the graduands and their guests. It is the 15 September, and time to celebrate the graduation of 154 of KI’s new doctors in Stockholm City Hall.

On May 12 more than 850 people gathered at Stockholm City Hall to celebrate Karolinska Institutet’s 152 new doctors and honorary doctors Wilhelmina Hoffman and Fredrik Lundberg.

Karolinska Institutets former President Ole Petter Ottersen has received two nice recognitions: the 2023 Friend of Stockholm's students award from the Stockholm Federation of Student Unions (SSCO) and the "Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star" from the Japanese government. Sten Lindahl, former professor at Karolinska Institutet, is also recognized with the Japanese order in the class "Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon."

It’s a major undertaking that Annika Östman Wernerson shoulders as Karolinska Institutet’s 24th president. But she won’t be doing it alone – everyone at the university will have to do their bit.

Conferment ceremonies, professorial installation ceremonies and degree ceremonies – the academic year is full of such formal occasions. Common to all of them are the student ushers, who help to keep the proceedings running smoothly. It is a prestigious role, say chief usher Philip Wallenius and vice-chief usher Ida Dahlgren, who will soon be graduating themselves.

On 11 November, it was time once again for 99 new PhDs of medical science to receive their hats and diplomas at KI’s conferment ceremony. The evening also paid tribute to 17 jubilee doctors who graduated at KI 50 years ago.

Eleven Non-European Master’s students received Karolinska Institutet’s Global Masters scholarship at an annual ceremony in Aula Medica.

To want to save lives. To inspire the next generation of students. And be extremely tempted by the buffet outside the auditorium. All emotions came forth when a group of new professors were installed at KI.

On 10 September, the second promotional ceremony of the year was held in Stockholm City Hall. 164 new doctors received their hats and diplomas as they were celebrated for achieving the highest academic degree, many of them after a long wait due to the pandemic. Karolinska Institutet (KI) has today decided to confer honorary doctorates upon HRH Prince Daniel, Dr. Soumya Swaminathan and Professor Shinhiro Takeda. The formal ceremony will take place in conjunction with a graduation ceremony to be held in Stockholm City Hall (COVID permitting) on 29 April.

After an 18-month hiatus due to the pandemic, the doors to KI's conferment ceremony at Stockholm City Hall could finally be reopened. Not only one – but two nights in a row – the organizers Akademiska arranged ceremonies held to celebrate all new doctors who have defended their doctoral thesis in the autumn 2019 and spring 2020 along with honorary doctors and jubilee doctors.

The early development of the immune system, antibiotics in dentistry and strengthened medical pedagogy. These are some of the research areas that Karolinska Institutet's new professors are interested in. On 14 October 2021, the annual inauguration ceremony was held in Aula Medica where 18 new professors were installed, and 12 adjunct professors and 2 visiting professors were welcomed to their new positions at the university.

AIMBE fellows represent two percent of the top scientists working in medicine and life science, and are regularly recognised for their contribution in teaching, research and innovation. Yihai Cao was recently elected to become one of them.

On Thursday evening, 15 October, one of the highlights of the academic calendar took place – the annual installation ceremony for new professors at KI, this time both in Aula Medica and digitally. 14 new professors were installed, and new adjunct professors and visiting professors were also welcomed.

Mushroom pickers and kite surfers who want to cure cancer and eliminate chronic pain – those are some of the 13 new professors inaugurated at Karolinska Institutet on Thursday in a ceremony in Aula Medica. Some 750 guests had gathered to welcome the new professors in addition to eight adjunct professors, four visiting professors, eight prize winners and four medalists.

This spring’s conferment ceremony at Karolinska Institutet was something of a record-breaker. As many as 157 new doctors of medical science received their hat and diploma in Stockholm City Hall before being given a cannon salute in celebration of their having earned the highest academic degree.

Kaj Fried is the recipient of the Swedish Dental Association's International Prize 2018.

Since 2011 universities and institutions of higher education in Sweden have had greater freedom to decide themselves on the appointment of a professor. Karolinska Institutet has chosen to expose professorships to competition and has abolished the right to be promoted.

Karolinska Institutet's yearly installation ceremony was held Thursday October 15, 2015, at which new professors, adjunct professors, visiting professors and, not least, foreign adjunct professors were presented. This year's academic prizes and awards were also announced.
