Lisette Farias Vera, Assistant Professor and Docent at the Division of Occupational Therapy, has been appointed as the new Junior Academic Leader for WISE.

On 30 August, the President announced her decision to adopt a new model for the allocation of government research grants. The model, which grants a flat-rate allocation to all departments, will come into effect in 2025. All in all, the new model means that more funding will be channelled to core activities than previously, in part due to a reduction in the president’s allocation. When the model comes into effect, all departments will receive more resources than they did in 2024.

The University Library, KIB, is changing its system for publishing theses. The new system is called Figshare and the change means a new look and better integration with KI’s system for research information, KI RIMS. The web address will remain the same: openarchive.ki.se. Possible downtime may occur.

The license for SPSS expired on 2024-08-30, but the software will stay functional for an additional 30 days thereafter.

Welcome to the 2024 autumn term! The new term officially kicks off on 2 September and I look forward very much to seeing all our students back on campus.

In the spring of 2024, an invitation was sent to researchers to participate in an evaluation of Clinicum's method support. Of all those who used the support, 7/10 were very satisfied and 9/10 would recommend it to a colleague. Some of the reasons for the satisfaction were that many people refer to a high level of competence and pedagogical ability of the methodological advisers, as well as the possibility of getting help quickly. Helpfulness, friendliness, and flexibility are also highlighted.

Teaching and Learning welcome you to a workshop on psychological safety, to discuss its significance, apply concrete strategies in the teaching contexts, and reflect and discuss with colleagues.

On 1 July 2024, the number of departments at KI went down from 22 to 21 as the integration of BioNut as a division of MedH came to a close. The project, which will now continue within MedH, has boosted the work KI is doing on its strategic focus areas as well as the “we” spirit within the department and KI as a whole.

Empowering connections from neurons to society - A 2-day Neuroscience Conference held the 17 and 18 of October

A research internship enables doctors on an internship to combine their regular clinical internship (in Swedish Allmäntjänstgöring - AT) with up to 12 months of research at KI.
Apart from being eligible for an internship, candidates must also at the time of the application, hold a medical degree and either as a registered doctoral student at KI or a PhD engaged in research at KI.

The external review of the previous internal investigation into the freezer failure in Neo during the Christmas holidays 2023, supports the conclusions and recommendations of the internal report. This was clear when the external investigation was presented to KI's management and affected staff on 20 August.

This significant achievement highlights the exceptional work and groundbreaking advancements of the TERMINET project, showcasing its contributions to the next generation of IoT technologies.

On 15 August a maintenance test of the power will require brief (5-15 minutes) sequential shutdowns of all power in each section of Neo.

The power shutdown will be performed on ALL power outlets in Neo, including back-up power.

A cursory check of some equipment, such as low temperature freezers, will be done by the Neo service team in conjunction with the shutdown, but all research groups are recommended to afterwards check all their critical equipment such as incubators and freezers.

During the year, the Swedish Research Council will carry out a comprehensive national evaluation of the quality and importance of preclinical research in basic medical and pharmaceutical sciences. KI is one of seven Swedish higher education institutions that are being audited. The Swedish Research Council's evaluation refers to the results of research published during the years 2018-2024.

Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour offers a 5-day course in MR Methods used in Cognitive Neuroimaging.

The current agreement with Avonova occupational health care is extended until 30th of September. Information about the new agreement will be available at the end of September.

In the event that a new agreement is made with another health care company, ongoing cases at Avonova will be able to be closed at Avonova and do not need to be transferred to the new health care company.

On 26 June, the President decided to repeal previous regulations and establish new guidelines for employment after reaching the LAS age (69 years, the age for the right to remain in employment).

The activities of the Department of Biosciences and Nutrition has been wound up and merged with the Department of Medicine, Huddinge. This means that the Department of Medicine, Huddinge is growing and that the activity at the department broadens.
