The new education organisation launched on 18 June 2024 involved the creation of two new working groups, in addition to the Education Board (Utbildningsnämnden, UN). These two are the Steering Group for Teaching at FyFa (STUFF) and a Team for Undergraduate Education (Team GUA). Kent, what is the latest on Team GUA?

1) What is the status of Team GUA?

The formation of Team GUA is in place now, which is very positive. Overall, I see the organisational change as extremely positive; more people are involved in education in different ways, in a very concrete way. It provides a good basis for strategic thinking for the future. Right now, the focus is on defining different clusters of teachers in education. A proposal will be presented to the STUFF, which in turn will report to the strategy group and the management team. Another important focus area for Team GUA is teacher recruitment, which we are working on continuously.

Who are in Team GUA and what is it? Read more on this page.

2) What are the current challenges and how are you addressing them?

We are facing an imminent generational change at FyFa with many key teaching staff retiring or stepping down. We need to ensure that we have teaching staff in all the courses we offer, which is unusually high in number compared to other preclinical research-oriented departments at Biomedicum. It is also important that we continue our tradition of helping each other out in teaching.

3) What is the next step?

Clarification of roles is an important endeavour. We need to clarify different roles in teaching - what does it mean to be a teacher or a course administrator, for example? We will now draw up a document with all these roles, including specifications for them. Then, of course, it is an important next step to get all the clusters with the respective teachers in place so that the clusters can begin to fulfil their purpose; to jointly strengthen teaching, to transfer knowledge to the next generation, to adapt teaching to different types of students, and more.
