The students have left for summer, and the study year 2023/2024 is now in its final phase, with exam corrections and summing up activities. A sincere thank you to everyone who has contributed to MBB’s teaching activities during this period.

Congratulations to the 9 excellent researchers at Labmed receiving project grants from CIMED.

Sustainability, inclusiveness, integration for University support services (SiiUss) is the name of a project and joint initiative between University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD). After the successful running of the pilot project in 2023, with ten delegates, five from each partner institution, SiiUSS recently took its show to Japan.

CIMED has allocated clinical research time to Mattias Ulmner and project funds to Ronaldo Lira-Junior.

On Tuesday, June 11, OSK challenged colleagues at Bite Physiology at Eastman in the Blodomloppet at Djurgården, a challenge that OSK won. Five people from each clinic ran 5.3 km in cold weather with occasional light rain.

Junior researchers are invited, by the Internationalisation board, to apply for funding for collaboration with partners in low- and middle-income countries in Africa in 2025. The level of funding is 50,000 to 100,000 SEK.

Tips from KI Grants Office regarding current calls

The proposal discussed with affected staff is that five offices will cease to exist and three new ones will be formed from 1 January 2025. The aim is to equip KI's operational support to meet increased demands and rapid changes in the outside world through more effective coordination, and to contribute to a stronger sense of unity throughout KI.

As of June 1st, KI researchers can publish with prepaid open access in Rockefeller University Press’ three own journals.

Claudia Hanson, research group leader for IMPAQT at GPH, had her inaugural lectureship as Professor at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine on 23 May. KI has presented this year’s sustainability award to Assistant Senior Lecturer Emma Swärdh for her dedication and leadership in the field of sustainable development. Created in 2023, the award was presented at KI’s Sustainability Day on 22 May for the second time. “I hope that it will inspire more people to get involved in sustainability issues,” she says.

Anna Kågesten, Elin Larsson, and Anna Mia Ekström recently attended the official launch of the ENGAGE project during its inception meeting in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Jonas Bergh, Klas Kärre, Lars Rydén and Karin Schenck-Gustafsson are awarded the Grand Silver Medal 2024. The medal has been presented since 2010 to individuals who have made tremendous efforts to support the activities of KI and is recognized during the installation ceremony at Aula Medica on October 3.

From April 1, 2024, (eLife and Copernicus) and June 1 (JMIR) researchers at KI can publish articles open access without having to pay a publication fee in all journals from the publishers JMIR, eLife and Copernicus. The agreements are financed by the Swedish Research Council, Forte, Formas and Vinnova.

Th meeting is open for all interested in and working with dementia in clinical practice. This conference will focus on the upcoming new disease modifying treatments in Alzheimer’s disease, prevention of dementia and the new blood-based biomarkers.
