Explore cultural initiatives for employees at KI

KI Culture week

If you have an interest in culture, there are several initiatives at KI to participate and get involved in. Giulia Gaudenzi, Assistant Professor at the Department of Global Public Health is also a member of the Cultural Council at KI and we asked her to list the cultural activities available at KI.

Advisory Board for Culture at KI

The Advisory Board for Culture at KI is a fantastic starting point. We organize various cultural events and foster the integration of culture into academic life at KI. This is where cultural enthusiasts can connect and contribute to KI’s artistic and cultural community. Here you meet with KI science/scientists that increases our understanding of effects of culture on human health and disease (Culture and Brain; What is life?; see below). History of KI is also in focus (see www.wikiki.se; Berzelius-exhibition). Arrange lectures, symposia and exhibitions, see below.

Cultural Days and Events

KI organizes events like the Culture Day, where arts, science, and culture intersect through discussions, performances, and exhibitions.

Hagströmer Library

The Hagströmer Library is a hub for historical collections in medicine and science. It’s an inspiring space if you’re interested in the intersection of history, culture, and science. They also host exhibitions and lectures on these themes.

The Cell

The Cell is a platform where art and science collide.  The National Museum of Science and Technology is responsible for the initiative and Karolinska Institutet is involved as a knowledge partner and a bridge between the world of research and the public events at The Cell. Seminars around the topic are organized during the year.

The Cultural Brain Initiative

The Cultural Brain Initiative is another fascinating initiative where you can explore how culture and the brain interact. This interdisciplinary initiative organizes lectures, workshops, and research projects on the relationship between culture, neuroscience, and well-being.

What is Life Lecture Series

The What is Life Lecture Series is an inspiring ongoing event at KI, exploring fundamental questions about life and existence. The lecture you mentioned on consciousness and its neural substrate is part of this series. These talks bring together experts from diverse fields such as biology, philosophy, and neuroscience to dive into questions like the origins of life, consciousness, and more. You can check out the calendar for upcoming lectures.

Konstföreningen vid KI (art association)

Konstföreningen vid KI organizes art exhibitions, lectures, and art-related events for employees and students. It’s a great way to explore and engage with visual arts within the KI community. https://artworks.se/karolinskakonstforeningen

Choir Biomusicum

There is a choir in Biomedicum ” Biomusicum” (no website, but the contact person is roelinde.middelveld@ki.se)

Choir A Scalpella

KI has a well-established choir where students, staff, and alumni can join and participate in various performances, both at official events and external concerts. https://medicinskaforeningen.se/en/associations/ascalpella/
