Canvas was recently the target of a data breach in which data such as names, email addresses and the content of private messages was leaked. It has been confirmed that students and staff using Canvas at Karolinska Institutet have been affected.

The virtual SASUF+ AIMday event, 26-27 May is approaching. The regular registration period has closed but there are around twenty challenges, several within the theme of Sustainable Health, for which it is still possible for late registration.

The first stage of the migration from Kaltura (My Media/Media Gallery in Canvas) to Canvas Studio is now complete. Your videos have been copied to your personal Studio library, in a collection: “Migrated videos [username]”.
The next stage will be Search and replace, where existing Kaltura links and embeds in Canvas will be replaced with the corresponding Canvas Studio videos.

From 1 May, a new framework agreement with Dustin will apply for the purchase of licences and cloud services. The framework agreement has been signed jointly with other higher education institutions and replaces the previous framework agreement with SoftwareONE.

Problems with Tortalk as a pedagogical accommodations for students with disabilities during digital exams have been noticed lately. Now there is a temporary solution that can be used by students during a digital exam.

Karin Leander is awarded Karolinska Institutet’s Sustainability Award for her commitment to integrating climate, environmental and sustainability perspectives into the medical programme. Through pedagogical initiatives and a digital tool, she contributes to strengthening future physicians’ competence for a more sustainable healthcare system. The award was presented on 16 April in conjunction with KI’s Sustainability Day.

KI’s Sustainability Day took place on 16 April at the Flemingsberg campus. The morning programme included lectures, discussions, and the presentation of KI’s Sustainability Award and the award for the student poster exhibition. The theme of the day was “From plate to planet: how food shapes our health”.

Kristi Sidney Annerstedt is an Associate Professor in global health at Karolinska Institutet with a focus on health promotion and health equity. Kristi is an experienced mixed methods researcher with strong skills in epidemiological study design, process evaluations, and intervention acceptability. Kristi has had support from Clinicum.

A new search service for research information is now being launched at KI. The service is based on data from KI RIMS, which collects and organises information about researchers, research groups, publications and research grants. Rachel Fisher, together with Louisa Cheung and Jurga Laurencikiene, has been awarded the Prize for Internationalisation in Teaching and Learning 2026, a joint national award from the medical faculties in Sweden, for the international education initiative BalticSeaBioMed.

A national survey shows that pedagogical accomodations are perceived as helpful by students, but that the process of accessing such support is often complicated. The findings also highlight the need for greater general academic accessibility, which benefits all students.

The IT Office has decided to phase out and discontinue the VPN Light service, which has been available for computers outside the central client service Karyon. The decision is part of KI's efforts to strengthen security within our IT infrastructure. The phase-out will be implemented at a slower pace than announced initially, to allow users time to adapt their working methods to other technical solutions.

As of 1 July, Patrik Magnusson will take on the position of acting head of department at the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, until a permanent head of department is appointed.

One of the national services offered by NBIS/SciLifeLab is the Bioinformatics Peer review Support track (a.k.a. WABI), providing competences in large-scale data analysis for genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, Cryo-EM and other technologies.
