The global situation is affecting the Karyon computer service

The current global situation, with sharply rising hardware costs, is affecting our ability to rent and procure new computers for the organisation.

ITA is currently focusing on identifying acceptable solutions that balance the risks associated with older hardware with the aim of minimising any impact on operations.

Until a new agreement for the computer rental service is in place, or a new budget period begins, ITA needs to adapt the client services to address the situation as it stands today.

Temporary suspension of PC rentals

The rental service with lifecycle management, is temporarily closed for new PC orders.

This is due to significant price increases, further expected increases, clauses in the computer rental agreement, and public procurement regulations (LoU). At present, the supplier is unable to deliver these computers, as this would result in a substantial loss.

This means that:

  • It is not possible to rent new PC computers. There is currently no forecast for when this will become possible again.
  • Mac computers can, for the time being, be rented as before.
  • PC computers that are due for replacement this year will have their rental period extended at no additional cost. The computer will therefore not be replaced, and the monthly fee will remain unchanged during the extended period.

Extended usage period for purchased computers

For purchased computers, ITA has decided on the following temporary measures and approach:

  • Existing purchased computers will be used for a longer period than previously allowed.
  • The condition of the computer and operational needs will determine whether extended use is possible – in some cases, replacement may be unavoidable.
  • If new purchases are required, a list of the computer models previously offered through the rental service is available in Wisum, with links to the relevant product pages for ordering.

We are working to ensure that the impact on operations is kept to a minimum and will provide further information ahead of the next budget period and any potential new supplier agreements.
