New search service for research information at KI

Decorative image

A new search service for research information is now being launched at KI. The service is based on data from KI RIMS, which collects and organises information about researchers, research groups, publications and research grants. The aim of the new search service is to make it easy for researchers, as well as other users, to find relevant information about KI’s researchers and research.

Explore the new search service

In the new search service, you can search for any terms – for example, a subject, a disease, a method or a person. The results are presented in four categories: people, research groups, publications and research grants. There are also several filters you can apply to your search, such as academic title/role, research area, department, publication type and year of publication.

Please feel free to try it out, evaluate it, and provide feedback if you have any questions or concerns.

A new way to access KI's research information

The search service, which is based on KI RIMS (Research Information Management System), has been developed by the University Library in collaboration with the Information Technology Office, the Communications and Public Relations Office and the KI RIMS Team. The aim of the service is to make it easy to find relevant information about KI’s research and researchers.

The service is primarily designed for researchers, both within and outside KI, who need to find information about KI’s researchers and research. This may, for example, involve finding people with a specific type of expertise or role, or identifying potential collaboration partners at KI.

The search service can also be of great value to other internal and external users, as many need to find information about KI’s research, whether it is to offer someone an assignment, find a researcher in a specific field for funding, or an expert to interview.

The search service was opened in a soft launch earlier this year and has since been tested and further developed. It is now ready for widespread use. Björn Kull, Head of the Department of Research Support and External Relations and a member of the steering group for KI RIMS, is one of those who has followed the development work.

– In the past, I have often found it difficult to quickly get an overview of different research areas, which researchers are working on what, and who they are collaborating with. The information has been available, but scattered across different systems and formats, which has made it time-consuming to get an overview – particularly when it comes to ongoing research, interdisciplinary links and the expertise currently available at KI. – With the new search service, it will be much easier to find the right researchers and research areas and to see how different parts of KI’s research are connected, says Björn Kull, highlighting one of the aims of the search service: to reduce the need for manual lists, personal networks and individual compilations.

– For us in Research Support and External Relations Office, this search service is a very important tool. Our work involves creating the right conditions for research, and a key part of this is connecting researchers with the right funders, partners and initiatives. The search service provides us with a much better basis for identifying relevant research and expertise, enabling us to offer more tailored support to KI.

I also see great potential in our engagement with the wider world – for example, when we interact with public authorities, the business community or international stakeholders. This allows us to demonstrate the breadth, depth and strength of KI’s research much more clearly and cohesively. This strengthens both our internal work and KI’s external impact, says Björn Kull.

Boost your visibility

For researchers and other staff, the search service can be a way to be found by more people. By updating your profile page with a clear description of your work, your roles and your research area – as well as adding keywords, publications and research grants – you can increase your visibility both in KI’s research search and in other search engines. This can lead to more contacts regarding collaborations, research grants, teaching, expert assignments and more.

If you want to refresh your profile page but are unsure where to start, we have put together a checklist to help you.
