Migration of videos to Canvas Studio – what happens now?

The migration of videos from Kaltura (My Media/Media Gallery in Canvas) to Canvas Studio has now begun.
From 22 April, videos will gradually be copied to your personal Studio library.

What to expect

After the migration, your Kaltura videos are copied into Canvas Studio and stored in a personal collection (e.g. “migrated videos [username]”). Each video retains its original Entry ID and metadata, with the Entry ID also added to the description for easier searching. The videos are linked to the correct Canvas courses where they were previously used, and can be viewed via Studio in the course menu (alongside any videos you have manually added).

Check your videos

We ask you to go into Canvas Studio and check that your videos have been migrated correctly.

In particular, check:

  • that you recognise your videos
  • that the number of videos is approximately correct
  • that the videos can be played
  • that captions are displayed correctly (if available)
  • that your videos are connected to your Canvas courses (difficult to check all videos but do check a few)

Please access our guide which includes a video instruction.
