The Science Festival Forskarfredag was organized at Albanova the 27 September. Many activities took place, for instance a Science Fair and the competition Researchers' Grand Prix.
Many researchers from KI participated and met curious high school students.

Researchers, including doctoral students in their last years of their doctoral education, at KI are invited to apply for short-term research exchange grants funded by Eurolife.

The Course and Programme Committee (KPK) is now accepting applications for funding for activities aimed at pedagogical development of doctoral courses.

The President has decided on a clarification of the instructions on the employment procedure for teachers at KI. The revision will make things clearer and more transparent for both the applicants and the ones assessing them. The updated instructions come into effect on 1 November 2024.

On Thursday, 3 October, starting at 7 PM, an update will be made to ki.se, including news.ki.se, staff.ki.se, and education.ki.se. During the update, there may be some downtime, and it will not be possible to log in and work in the web publishing system.

KI researchers Lea Stark and Erik Andersson have qualified for the final of the Researchers' Grand Prix to be held in November.

The theme of the European Geriatric Medicine Society Congress this year was "From Healthy Ageing to Complex Needs in Older Adults". One of the aims of the (EuGMS) is to encourage and help young practitioners to further their knowledge, by awarding the Best Abstract Awards to the oral communications with the highest translational and clinical relevance. This year, three out of 104 oral presentations were awarded the prize, each winner receiving €500 each and a diploma.

On 25 September 2024, the Widerströmska Huset at Karolinska Institutet hosted the annual SNAC-K Research Day. The event brought together researchers and the data collection team to discuss and reflect on the latest SNAC-K data.

As part of an initiative with Imperial College London, Karolinska Institutet aims to stimulate doctoral student networking and interaction between KI doctoral students and doctoral students at Imperial College.

Dedicated research time for clinical professionals is central to high quality clinical research. Region Stockholm annually announces positions at different levels for clinical research. This year, a large part of these very attractive positions went to researchers at the Department of Medicine Solna (MedS).

Sweet September has arrived, bringing some good news and some wait-and-sees. After the government presented its budget for 2025 on 19 September, it’s still not clear what kind of resources will be available for higher education.

IT will carry out a planned maintenance work on KI Redcap on September, 26. The service window is between 19:00 and 22:00.
This means that KI Redcap will be unavailable to all users during this time.

KI's University Director has decided that all departments must be part of Coordinated IT, and currently 16 departments are fully integrated. MEB already uses several core services, such as the network, Office 365 and some storage.

The term of office for current assignments within the program committees ends on 31 March 2025. The Committee for Higher Education (KU) welcomes applications for assignments within the program committees for the mandate period 2025-2028.

The academic election of new teacher representatives to KI's University Board (Konsistoriet) has now been completed, and the election results have been confirmed by University Director Veronika Sundström.

The Florman Award, which is annually given for a printed dissertation in physiology or anatomy, has been awarded this year to Hugo Zeberg.

Akademiska hus offers KI employees free training at the Flemingsberg and Solna campuses during the autumn.

At the end of the summer, Karolinska Institutet was visited by the Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine. The hospital is a partner in the Joint Research Base for Traditional Chinese Medicine (JRBCM) research project run in collaboration with KI.

Karolinska Institutet and the National University of Singapore offer a short-term exchange program for hosting up to two PhD students from each university per year.

Now there is a new, partially automated presentation of Karolinska Institutet’s research by subjects on ki.se. The presentation is made with the help of KI’s new data system for research information, KI RIMS, and showcases research groups, teams, and in some cases, units.

The Karolinska Institutet hosted its highly anticipated annual reception, the KI@AMEE Mingle, during the AMEE Congress in Basel in August. Organized by Teaching and Learning at KI, the event served as a platform to celebrate collective achievements, honor this year's KIPRIME awardee, and foster meaningful connections among the global medical education community.

KI’s ambition is to halve its emissions of greenhouse gases by 2030 and become climate neutral. In 2018, KI topped the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency’s list of the ten public authorities with the greatest CO₂ footprint from long-haul flights. It is gratifying to find that in its 2023 environmental management report, KI is no longer on that list.

At this semester's first staff meeting for KI's Professional Services (PS), some current results in the work on KI's strategic focus areas were presented, including the review currently underway of the PS. Here you will find brief information on the issues raised at the meeting.

On September 5th, the election period begins to appoint new faculty members to KI's University Board. During May, employees and students had the opportunity to nominate candidates for the role as faculty member on KI's board. Now, a total of three positions need to be filled.
