New strategy for the Infrastructure Board's work 2025-2028

The Infrastructure Board has adopted its strategy for the development of KI's research infrastructure. The aim of the strategy is to ensure that KI's researchers have access to the most advanced and relevant research infrastructure, which is crucial for conducting research of the highest quality.
In recent years, the Infrastructure Board at KI has increased its investments in research infrastructure to meet the rapidly changing needs within research. The new strategy covers the years 2025-2028.
The strategy focuses on four main areas
1. Identifying the needs of researchers
The Infrastructure Board will conduct systematic work to identify and assess the needs of researchers for research infrastructure. This includes seeking advice from an International Advisory Board and engaging in dialogue with KI's faculty bodies and line organisation. User surveys and open meetings with researchers will ensure that the infrastructure meets current needs.
2. Researchers' Access to Research Infrastructure
To facilitate researchers' access to both regional and national research infrastructure, the Board intends to develop the processes for allocating operating funds to KI's core facilities. Coordinating collaboration between core facilities and strengthening KI's participation in national infrastructures are also prioritised areas. Focus will be placed on data management and data storage initiatives.
3. Conditions for the Operation of Research Infrastructure
The Infrastructure Board aims to create favourable conditions for the operation of research infrastructure by offering coordinated and tailored support in areas such as IT, finance, law, and communication. This will enable researchers to focus on their research without having to manage administrative hurdles.
4. Follow-up of Actions
To ensure that resources are used efficiently and that the research infrastructure maintains high quality, the Infrastructure Board will prioritise uniform and systematic management procedures. A steering document describing KI's quality system for research infrastructure will be developed and implemented.

“It is very satisfying that we now have a strategy in which the Infrastructure Board identifies priority actions to meet researchers’ needs for research infrastructure and alleviate for those who operate research infrastructures. The strategy makes the Infrastructure Board’s priorities transparent, and we welcome dialogue, for example on the needs of researchers,” says Karin Dahlman-Wright, Chair of the Infrastructure Board.
