New research group: Paul Petrus and team to join FyFa

Paul Petrus and his research group will move from MedH to FyFa in May. He is looking forward to the transfer and to engaging more closely with other research groups at the department.
Paul Petrus and his research group are set to join FyFa in May 2025. In what exact quarter of FyFa’s premises is yet to be determined. Currently, the group consists of Paul, two postdoctoral researchers, one PhD student, and one research assistant. Plans are to gradually expand the team, starting with the addition of another PhD student later in 2025.
Paul started his own research group in 2022 at the Department of Medicine, Huddinge (MedH), where he did his PhD. However, he has long been eager to move to the Solna side, and especially to FyFa, as he believes it will be a better environment for his group.
“I look forward to joining FyFa and engaging more closely with other research groups at the department. I see many opportunities for fruitful collaborations,” says Paul.
Research about how environmental factors are integrated by the circadian system
The group’s research focuses on understanding how environmental factors are integrated by the circadian system in specific organs and how these influences extend to rhythms in distant tissues. To achieve this, they employ a combination of transgenic mouse models, in vitro systems, and bioinformatic approaches to study circadian inter-organ communication and the pathophysiological consequences of its disruption.
With their expertise in circadian biology and inter-organ communication, the team is expected to contribute significantly to FyFa’s research environment and foster new collaborative opportunities within the department.
Outside of work, Paul has two young children, which keeps him busy with activities such as taking them to training sessions. When time allows, he practices boxing every Saturday, a sport in which he used to compete when he was younger.
Welcome to FyFa Paul and team!
