The IT Office has decided to phase out and discontinue the VPN Light service, which has been available for computers outside the central client service Karyon. The decision is part of KI's efforts to strengthen security within our IT infrastructure and is effective immediately. The service will be completely phased out on 31 May 2026.

This year, KI has two digital cards with winter motifs where you can write your own Christmas greeting. It is also possible to send the cards to a printing service for those who want paper cards.

The lecture, titled "Human autoantibodies neutralizing type I interferons", will take place on 10 November 2025 at 16:00 at Nobel Forum, Campus Solna.

Marie Carlén has been named the new Head of the Department of Neuroscience. The formal decision, signed on 3 November 2025 by Dean of Solna Campus, Sten Linnarsson, in consultation with the President of Karolinska Institutet, confirms that she will succeed Gilberto Fisone in this role as of 1 January 2026. Her tenure as Head of Department is set for an initial period of five years.

The Hagströmer Library's former exhibit, The Fragility of Life – 500 Years of Knowledge about Foetuses and Childbirth, is getting a new lease on life at the KI University Library in Solna.

Maja Fjaestad, former State Secretary at the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs and until now working at the European Commission's AI Office in Brussels, will become Senior Advisor to the President at Karolinska Institutet. The position is newly established and aims to strengthen KI's position as an active and driving social actor.

Karolinska Institutet (KI) announces three positions as scientific ombudsmen (vetenskapliga ombud), starting 1 January 2026. The assignment is an important part of KI’s efforts to promote good research practice, research ethics, and responsible research conduct.

Procurement and services must, as far as possible be called off against KI:s framework agreements.

In the afternoon of October 22, parts of Biomedicum at Campus Solna experienced a power outage. The incident affected both the electricity supply and several digital systems, including the internet, KI’s website, and other electronic support systems.

Currently, it is not possible to log in to KLARA.

We are now in the throes of the autumn term – there is a lot going on and multiple important processes and projects are being conducted in parallel. On 15 October, the University Board made its decision on the future organisation of KI’s Faculty Board and committees, with the aim of creating a good balance between collegial and line organisational structures, clarifying roles and duties, and ultimately strengthening KI as a sustainable and successful university.

On Thursday, October 23rd, starting after 7:00 PM, an update will be carried out on ki.se, including medarbetare.ki.se, nyheter.ki.se, and utbildning.ki.se. During the update, some downtime may occur, and it will not be possible to log in or work in the web publishing system.

A power outage in Biomedicum between approximately 2:20 p.m. and 4:20 p.m. (22/10) affected a data center in the building.
As a safety measure, parts of the center were shut down, which affected the website ki.se that was unavailable between 3:35 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
The problem has now been resolved.

The IT department will continue to restore other affected systems during the evening.

The Government's budget proposal for 2026 represents a positive addition for Karolinska Institutet. The President has therefore decided that KI's campus groups will receive more funding for joint priorities in 2026. At the same time, several measures are being taken to address KI's adminstrative capital.

How can students develop the skills and strategies needed to navigate a world where generative AI is becoming an increasingly common part of their studies? That was the question the Karolinska Institutet University Library (KIB) was tasked with answering resulting in a new web resource on AI. Developed using user experience (UX) methodologies and agile work practices, the resource has been designed to meet the authentic needs of KI students.

At the 14th European Congress for Tropical Medicine and International Health in Hamburg, Philipp Gerlach presented key findings from his Global Health master’s thesis, shedding light on the burden and diagnostic challenges of childhood urinary tract infections in the WHO African Region. His presentation highlighted the urgent need for improved diagnostic tools in resource-limited settings.

Karolinska Institutet now has its own institutional repository for the dissemination and long-term preservation of research data – the KI Data Repository. The Data Access Unit at the University Library is the support function that manages and provides support in matters concerning the use of the service.
