The IT Office has decided to phase out and discontinue the VPN Light service, which has been available for computers outside the central client service Karyon. The decision is part of KI's efforts to strengthen security within our IT infrastructure and is effective immediately. The service will be completely phased out on 31 May 2026.

The formal decision, signed on 3 November 2025 by Dean of Solna Campus, Sten Linnarsson, in consultation with the President of Karolinska Institutet, confirms that she will succeed Gilberto Fisone in this role as of 1 January 2026. We are now in the throes of the autumn term – there is a lot going on and multiple important processes and projects are being conducted in parallel. On 15 October, the University Board made its decision on the future organisation of KI’s Faculty Board and committees, with the aim of creating a good balance between collegial and line organisational structures, clarifying roles and duties, and ultimately strengthening KI as a sustainable and successful university.

A power outage in Biomedicum between approximately 2:20 p.m. and 4:20 p.m. (22/10) affected a data center in the building.
As a safety measure, parts of the center were shut down, which affected the website ki.se that was unavailable between 3:35 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
The problem has now been resolved.

The IT department will continue to restore other affected systems during the evening.
