Hello new staff #15

We are happy to introduce new colleagues at the Department of Laboratory Medicine. Welcome everyone!

Jingyang Niu

Postdoc at Division of Clinical Chemistry/Uwe Tietge & Ping Chen group

Jingyang Niu obtained Ph.D. degree from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China. His research interests lie on bioinformatics and machine learning. Since autumn 2023 he has started postdoc position in KI focusing on computational analysis and method development for single-nucleotide variant calling, including genomic variants and RNA editing. The goal is to construct powerful SNV tools specific tailored for human metabolic disease.

Yanjie Huang

Postdoc at Division of Biomolecular and Cellular Medicine/Samir EL Andaloussi group

Yanjie is from Shanghai, China, and his research interests include cell therapy, drug delivery systems, and innovative immunotherapies. He conducted research on engineered red blood cell drug delivery. His research includes using genetic engineering, chemical modification, enzyme catalysis and other methods to modify red blood cell membranes to carry drugs. In addition, he has garnered valuable experience in a biotechnology company, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the intricacies involved in cell therapy R&D and process development.

During his time at Karolinska Institutet, he will be dedicated to advancing drug delivery system development and pioneering the creation of innovative in vivo gene editing tools. Exciting times lie ahead!

Omnia Elsharkasy

Postdoc at Division of Biomolecular and Cellular Medicine/Samir EL Andaloussi group

Omnia comes from Egypt and started as postdoc in the EL Andaloussi group in February. Before that, she lived in The Netherlands, where she pursued her PhD at the University Medical Centre Utrecht under the supervision of Pieter Vader. Her thesis primarily focused on unraveling genes responsible for EV-mediated functional RNA delivery and EV engineering for RNA loading.

Annika Parswald

Study Counselor / Educational administration

Annika has been working at KI for two weeks now and before that she worked at KTH as a Student counselor for thirteen years.
