During an open meeting on 17 May at KI campus Flemingsberg, employees from KI and Karolinska University Hospital could hear more about the Karolinska ATMP Center and what it offers researchers or clinicians working with drugs for advanced therapies. Matti Sällberg, Dean of KI South and acting director of the center, answers three questions about the opportunities available.

Karolinska Institutet and Karolinska University Hospital are launching another tripartite collaboration, this time with Elekta. The aim is to join forces in the field of cancer with a focus on radiation therapy and precision medicine.

In 2023, the Strategic Research Area in Health Care Science (SFO-V) launched an initiative aimed at future researchers in health care science through an open call for funding for postdoctoral positions. A new handbook on interprofessional learning (IPL) is now available for healthcare professionals. The handbook can be used for guidance, both in daily work and in meetings with students.

On 1 November 2023, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Health Minister Acko Ankarberg Johansson, visited Genomic Medicine Sweden (GMS) to learn about the work on precision medicine for improved cancer care. Some of the topics discussed included broad gene sequencing as part of personalised healthcare, as well as the treatment and accessibility of data.

KI and Karolinska University Hospital have signed a memorandum of understanding with Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, one of Europe’s largest and most eminent university hospitals and medical universities. The signing of the MoU intensifies cooperation between the organisations.

This year's KLOK award goes to the Optometry program, which together with the St. Erik Eye Hospital has developed a clinical training clinic where students from several educational programs can broaden and deepen their knowledge in an interprofessional learning environment.

As part of the Swedish presidency of the EU's Council of Ministers, the health ministers of EU countries were invited to an informal meeting in Stockholm on the 4th and 5th of May. The meting concerned issues of preparedness and securing access to innovative and established medicines.

Region Stockholm has been given a high-quality rating by the Swedish Research Council (VR) in its evaluation of the quality of clinical research and how it is transformed into patient and societal benefit. The evaluation is important in many respects, including to the distribution of government ALF (Agreement on Clinical Research and Training) funds.

Region Stockholm has launched a new action plan for precision medicine in the region. The plan, which was devised in consultation with Karolinska Institutet and Karolinska University Hospital, will allow more patients to benefit from the research being done in the field of precision medicine.

While the content is rigorous, the hosts offer accessible insights with lighthearted style, making this podcast regular listening for many scholars’.

The students' association IFMSA runs the Vår hälsa brinner (Our health is on fire) campaign to raise awareness and educate about the health impacts of climate change. Students see a need to work concretely on the issue, not least during their medical training. They have made an alphabet series illustrating the impact of climate change on public health and hold educational workshops. During Politician's Week in Almedalen, they held a workshop and distributed posters with the alphabet.

The coronavirus pandemic highlighted the increased need for knowledge and skills within the field of geriatric care. KI is offering a specialist nursing programme with a focus on care for the elderly.

Each year MedTech Magazine appoints the 100 persons who most affect and contribute to care, patients' health and the availability of medical technology to citizens and patients.

Hi there Jens Jacob Fredriksson. You recently defended your doctoral thesis “How can health care organizations create value?: business model explorations”.

MedTechLabs is now open – the research centre formed by a close collaboration between Karolinska Institutet (KI), the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and Stockholm County Council (SLL). The objective of the centre’s first project is to develop technology to improve diagnosis and treatment of patients who have, for example, suffered a stroke.

Mia von Knorring was appointed the award: this year’s leadership facilitator by the Healthcare Leadership Academy the 21st of October 2014. The award is given to a person who has made significant efforts to promote good leadership in healthcare.
