NeurotechEU, the European University alliance that KI is part of, is launching a new self-paced online training on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) to help students, educators and support staff in intentionally designing more inclusive higher education learning environments.

The licence cost for Microsoft 365 Copilot, which gives you access to all AI features developed for M365, has now been reduced. The new price is SEK 175 per user and month.

On 14–15 February, KI’s system for plagiarism checking of theses, iThenticate, will (as previously announced) receive a new interface with partly new features.

After completing their first semester at Oviedo University in Spain, the new cohort Erasmus Mundus students have now arrived at KI. Representing diverse professional backgrounds and 17 countries, the students bring hands-on experience from humanitarian crises and global health challenges, setting the stage for a dynamic and collaborative semester of learning.

Filip Andersson began his studies in statistics and economic demography. After being hired as a data manager in a research project, he became inspired to pursue a research career himself and went on to start his PhD studies at the Department of Global Public Health.

The prize is awarded annually to individual teachers, teacher teams or administrative personnel who have undertaken significant educational initiatives related to pedagogical development or renewal work within Karolinska Institutet’s programmes at first cycle, second cycle or postgraduate levels. Submit nominations by 10 March at the latest.

Karolinska Institutet (KI) recently hosted a high‑level delegation from the University of Rwanda (UR) and the Embassy of Sweden in Rwanda in connection with the Annual Project Management Meeting of the TEI MAV+ project, held from 15 to 18 December 2025. The visit underscored the continued strengthening of collaboration between Rwanda and Sweden within the framework of the Team Europe Initiative on Manufacturing and Access to Vaccines, Medicines, and Health Technologies in Africa (TEI MAV+).

In the long history of the Radiumhemmet Research Funds, the largest funding allocation was awarded across several KI projects, including grants to seven cancer research projects at the Department of Laboratory Medicine. Congratulations!

Anna Schandl is a registered nurse and has worked in intensive care in the Stockholm Region for many years. She is an associate professor in nursing and research group leader in the research group for Perioperative Care and Intensive Care at Södersjukhuset. Anna works with data collected from regional and national cohort studies, but also with qualitative research; something she uses as an advisor within Clinicum's network.

As of 1 January 2026, Karolinska Institutet will establish the Committee for Ethics and Good Research Practice. The new committee will have a consolidated and wide-ranging mandate to strengthen and further develop KI’s work in human research ethics, animal research ethics, and good research practice. Professor Catarina Almqvist Malmros has been appointed chair of the committee, and three new scientific ombudsmen are responsible for the institutional groups KI North, KI Solna and KI South.

In January Jessica Gerrby started as an Educational Administrator at the Department of medicine, Huddinge (MedH).

Magnus Boman is an AI professor at the Department of Medicine, Solna, at KI, and part of the AI@KI project – a strategic project initiated by KI's rector with the goal of collecting and describing all activities at KI related to artificial intelligence (AI). In addition, since 2023, Magnus has been involved in AI issues at MedTechLabs and as an advisor within Clinicum for research methodology involving machine learning.

This spring, KI will begin replacing access cards (KI cards) and implementing a new system for managing access to premises – for a safer campus for both staff and students. The Professional Services (GVS) will be the first to replace cards, followed by the departments.
