The President has on 10th of December 2024 decided on a new qualification portfolio for teachers and researchers at KI.

The Decision-making Procedures and Delegation Rules will be published in full early in the new year. Some of the amendments apply to the delegation of authority to the deans, university director and heads of department, while others concern the organisation as a whole.

Do you need to find a docent at KI in a specific subject area? You can easily extract a list in KI RIMS. Just as KI's research information system has been open for a year, the report ‘Docents at KI’ is released, which lists both employed and affiliated docents at KI.

On 30 August, the President announced her decision to adopt a new model for the allocation of government research grants. The model, which grants a flat-rate allocation to all departments, will come into effect in 2025. All in all, the new model means that more funding will be channelled to core activities than previously, in part due to a reduction in the president’s allocation. When the model comes into effect, all departments will receive more resources than they did in 2024.

Senior lecturer and senior physician Vladimir Carli has been appointed as the new head of the National Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention (NASP) at Karolinska Institutet.

Veronika Sundström is Karolinska Institutet’s new university director as of 17 April. Her job is to lead KI’s central administration consisting of ten offices and over 500 staff. The president, vice-president and university director together comprise the university’s senior management.

On Aug. 11, the election committee presented two final candidates in the hunt for a new president of Karolinska Institutet. Annika Östman Wernerson at KI and Eva Tiensuu Janson at Uppsala University were selected among some 100 potential candidates. University board chairperson Göran Stiernstedt in the election committee and Professor Erika Franzén in the search committee comment on the recruitment process.
