Rebecka Hultgren has been appointed as Head of the Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery, MMK. The decision was signed by Dean Carl Johan Sundberg on March 7, 2025.

Rebecka will take over the assignment as head from Anders Franco-Cereceda on June 1, 2025.

Rebecka Hultgren is Adjunct Professor of Vascular Surgery at the Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery and a senior consultant at the Vascular Surgery Clinic, Karolinska University Hospital. Rebecka Hultgren works on clinical and translational research projects concerning aortic diseases (the main artery of the body). She has a particular interest in identifying subgroups at high risk of developing aortic aneurysms and creating better conditions to provide diagnosed patients with safer clinical follow-up and treatment programs to reduce the risk of premature death. A special focus has been to investigate relevant sex and gender differences in the field, as prevalence, treatment methods, and outcomes are very different for women and men.

Rebecka Hultgren's other assignments include being part of the Swedish Heart and Lung Foundation's advisory committee, being responsible for parts of the abdominal aortic screening in the region, participating in various courses as a teacher, supervision assignments, assignments for the European Society of Vascular Surgery, ESVS, and various clinical projects.
