Lectures and seminars Sexual Interest in Children – Clinical Perspectives and Prevention Strategies
On 11 June, the Centre for Psychiatry Research is hosting a lecture by Sara Jahnke, Associate Professor at the University of Bergen. Jahnke’s research focuses on sexual deviance from a clinical perspective, including how to assess and treat these conditions, as well as the psychological and social impact they can have on the individual, with a particular focus on reducing risks to society.

In his lecture ‘Sexual interest in children: Are we addressing the right problems?’, Jahnke presents an overview of his latest research on paedophilic disorder and the tensions that characterise current clinical approaches.
She highlights the differences between sexual interest in children, psychological distress and sexual abuse. The lecture also addresses treatment needs, experiences and barriers to seeking care that people with a sexual interest in children may encounter when they seek help. In addition, she presents current research on the motivational, situational and individual factors that may distinguish people with a sexual interest in children who commit sexual abuse from those who do not.
The lecture will also cover areas where there is ongoing scientific and clinical debate, particularly regarding assessment, treatment and support in voluntary care settings.
The lecture will be delivered in English and is aimed at practising researchers and clinicians!
