Welcome to a lecture exploring ethical, inclusive research on sexual violence and oppression among LGBTQ+ people, highlighting findings, co‑researcher insights, and dialogue on improving support and understanding.

In this lecture, Matilda Löfström, a doctoral student at Karolinska Institutet, will present her research on sexual violence and oppression among LGBTQ+ individuals, with a particular focus on an ongoing qualitative study on sexual violence among young LGBTQ+ women. The interview study is being conducted by Karolinska Institutet in collaboration with a researcher at the National Center for Women’s Safety (NCK) and two co-researchers from the target group who have personal experience of sexual violence.

The first part presents key findings and methodological considerations, focusing on how knowledge about violence and vulnerability can contribute to more inclusive support and a better understanding of LGBTQ+ individuals’ experiences.

The second part is a conversation between researchers and co-researchers about how research can be made more inclusive and ethical—especially when it concerns marginalized groups who are vulnerable to violence and oppression at both the individual and structural levels. What opportunities and challenges exist in involving people with personal experience in the research process?

The lecture concludes with a Q&A session where the audience is invited to engage in dialogue and reflection.

About Academic Pride

Academic Pride is a collaboration between several of Stockholm’s higher education institutions and their respective student unions. This year, in addition to KI, participants include KTH, Stockholm University, Södertörn University, the Stockholm School of Economics, and Marie Cederschiöld University College.

The aim is to highlight the importance of LGBTQIA+ issues at higher education institutions, both in terms of research and teaching as well as inclusive work and study environments.
