Store your battery in cupboard in the bycycle garage

From 1 January, anyone who brings an electric bicycle or electric scooter to KI must lock their battery in a special locker. This is due to the increased risk of fire.
Lithium-ion batteries pose an increased fire risk, especially if handled or charged incorrectly. The Legal, Financial and Administrative Services Agency ("Kammarkollegiet"), which provides KI with its business insurance, has introduced new rules for the handling of lithium-ion batteries, and KI has therefore drawn up guidelines. This means that lithium-ion batteries may only be stored outdoors or in cabinets designed specifically for this purpose.
Bycycle garages
Special cabinets for lithium-ion batteries have been installed in the bicycle garages at the following locations:
- Flemingsberg: In car park at Alfred Nobels allé 8
- Solna: In "Skruven", Biomedicum, Aula medica, Scheele, Wargentin and Widerströmska car parks.
As an employee with access to the building, you can park your bicycle and lock your battery there. You will need to bring your own lock.

No lithium-ion batteries in KI's premises
No storage of lithium-ion batteries (or electric bicycles with batteries) is therefore permitted anywhere on KI's premises (except in lockers).
This also applies to visitors, for example to conferences or to the University Dental Clinic.
It is not permitted to charge lithium-ion batteries on KI's premises.
If you work at Karolinska University Hospital, it is good to know that they offer some storage for batteries in their bicycle rooms. Charging is not permitted on hospital premises.
