No lithium-ion batteries in KI's premises

From 1 January, no storage of lithium-ion batteries or electric bicycles with batteries is permitted anywhere on KI's premises. This is due to the increased risk of fire.
Lithium-ion batteries pose an increased fire risk, especially if handled or charged incorrectly. In the event of a fire, toxic gases can also be released. The Legal, Financial and Administrative Services Agency ("Kammarkollegiet"), which provides KI with its business insurance, has introduced new rules for the handling of lithium-ion batteries larger than 10 Ah, and KI has therefore developed instructions.
This means that no storage of lithium-ion batteries intended for means of transport such as bicycles, electric scooters or similar means of transport, as well as other lithium-ion batteries larger than 10 Ah, is permitted in KI:s premises. This also applies to visitors, for example to conferences or patients at the University Dental Clinic.
- Lithium-ion batteries or electric bicycles with batteries larger than 10 Ah may only be stored outdoors or in bicycle garages (accessible, for staff).
There are also special lockers in bicycle rooms where you can lock your battery if you wish.
It is not permitted to charge private lithium-ion batteries on KI premises.
Storage in bicycle garages
In bicycle garages at the following locations, special cabinets for lithium-ion batteries have been installed:
- Flemingsberg: In car park at Alfred Nobels allé 8.
- Solna: In "Skruven", Biomedicum, Aula medica, Scheele and Wargentin car parks.
As an employee with access to the building, you can park your bicycle and lock your battery there. You will need to bring your own lock.
- For those affiliated with Karolinska University Hospital, it is good to know that they offer some storage of batteries in their bicycle garages. Charging is not permitted on the hospital premises.
- For the Novum building (next to Neo, Flemingsberg), electric bicycles may be parked in the garage but not charged.
