The IT Office has decided to phase out and discontinue the VPN Light service, which has been available for computers outside the central client service Karyon. The decision is part of KI's efforts to strengthen security within our IT infrastructure. The phase-out will be implemented at a slower pace than announced initially, to allow users time to adapt their working methods to other technical solutions.

On 16 April, the central login function for KI systems will be updated. You will then need to enter your email address instead of your KI ID when logging in.

As part of the IT Office's systematic security work, JAMF Security Cloud and JAMF Protect are now being rolled out to all Mac computers at KI.

At the moment, there are several attempted scams targeting KI, both via email and telephone calls.

Karolinska Institutet is now launching the Expert Pool, a new shared resource designed to strengthen research through improved access to advanced technical support. The My Media and Media Gallery features in Canvas, which use Kaltura to store video and audio in your Canvas courses, will be discontinued. Starting 8 December, it will no longer be possible to upload new videos to My Media and Media Gallery. You will still be able to view your videos via My Media and Media Gallery in your Canvas course. To continue working with educational videos and audio files in Canvas, please use Canvas Studio going forward.

During the autumn term, KI employees have been targeted by attempted fraud via telephone and text message, which is currently on the rise both in Sweden and internationally. There are a few things to keep in mind to reduce the risk of becoming a victim.

This fall, the transition from Windows 10 to Windows 11 will begin, affecting a large number of computers at KI that need to be updated or replaced if they are older computer models that do not meet the technical requirements.

The ongoing political situation in the US also raises many questions about KI's storage in Microsoft's cloud services, which are available to both staff and students. Here, the IT Office collects and answers frequently asked questions.

For KI researcher Ylva Trolle Lagerros, AI and Microsoft Copilot (formerly Bing Chat Enterprise) offer time savings and texts with cited sources, but also future opportunities for research collaborations with several countries. She also sees valuable connections between the use of AI tools and the role of teacher and researcher on digital support in healthcare.

For KI doctoral student Eric Åhlberg, AI and Microsoft Copilot (formerly Bing Chat Enterprise) offer tools for statistical analysis work and for managing certain administration. His long-term goal is for AI to become a validated tool for high-quality research results.

For ICT educator Marcus Emas, Microsoft Copilot (formerly Bing Chat Enterprise) and AI offer new opportunities to streamline the work with reference management, reading lists and assessing assignments, among other things. He emphasizes that AI at KI should be an equal tool and welcomes the introduction of Microsoft Copilot.

Karolinska Institutet's information management strategy was developed in Spring 2019 and is part of Strategy 2030. The aim is to create concrete, common and established ways forward for the management of information and data at Karolinska Institutet.
