Long delivery times for computers and mobile phones

Hardware suppliers and manufacturers are currently warning that the global market for memory, storage and processors is under strain. This is leading to both increased prices and delayed deliveries.

The increased demand is expected to lead to

  • limited availability of computer components,
  • higher prices,
  • risk of extended lead times and delayed deliveries throughout 2026 and into 2027.

Price increases of up to 25% are already being seen on computers, regardless of manufacturer. Normal delivery times are already 4-5 weeks for a new computer, but are expected to increase further.

What is the reason for this?

One contributing factor is the rapid expansion of AI-related infrastructure, with major players prioritising investments in data centres. This means that the supply of memory and storage in particular is largely directed towards the server market, while personal computers and other hardware are given lower priority.

What can I do if I need to order hardware?

To avoid delivery problems, plan ahead as much as possible if you intend to order a computer or mobile phone, for example.

Feel free to start planning now for any purchases you may make in 2026.
