Telephone scams – how to protect yourself
During the autumn term, KI employees have been targeted by attempted fraud via telephone and text message, which is currently on the rise both in Sweden and internationally. There are a few things to keep in mind to reduce the risk of becoming a victim.

Fraud via telephone or text message is known as ‘vishing’ and in some cases involves automated recorded voice messages with various requests. According to the police, this type of fraud is currently on the rise.
In some attempts, the fraudster has manipulated the sender information to make the employee believe that KI or the police are the sender. The purpose is usually to spread false information or obtain sensitive information.
KI has robust technical protection for IT environments. However, this type of fraud is partly designed to make us stressed and act quickly so that the protection is bypassed.
Consider this
- Be sceptical – even if the sender is known.
- If you have any doubts, check the sender via another channel.
- Never click on links or open attachments if you are unsure.
- Never disclose passwords or codes via telephone, text message or email.
