Lärarbarometern – your voice on the teaching role
For the first time, KI is conducting a Teaching Pulse (Lärarbarometern) — a complement to existing surveys that gives teaching staff and supervisors the chance to share their experiences in depth. You are now invited to take part.
What is the KI Teaching Pulse?
Every four years, KI conducts a student survey. Now, KI is doing something similar for those who teach and supervise — but with a different method and a different aim.
The Teaching Pulse is not a questionnaire. It is a qualitative study conducted through focus group conversations, exploring what genuinely engages people in their teaching role — and what makes it harder than it needs to be. We know the experience can look very different depending on where you work and what you teach. That is exactly what we want to understand.
The study is commissioned by the Committee for Higher Education (KU) and carried out by the Unit for Teaching and Learning (UoL).
Surveys give us a part of the picture, with the Teaching Pulse, we get other parts. We want to understand what truly engages teachers in their teaching role — and what makes it harder than it needs to be."
How does it work?
Conversations are held in focus groups of 5–8 participants and last approximately 75–90 minutes. They take place in Swedish or English, primarily on campus.
You choose a time that suits you. A number of slots are currently available before the summer — more will open in the autumn.

- Participation is voluntary and you can withdraw at any time
- Everything you share is treated confidentially — no individuals or groups will be identifiable in the report
- Recordings and transcripts are destroyed once the final report has been approved
Who can participate?
The study is open to KI-employed and KI-affiliated staff with recurring teaching assignments — regardless of employment type, department, or subject area.

Teaching at KI is a responsibility carried by so many people, in so many different ways. We see it as a real privilege to listen to that experience — and a responsibility to do it well.
