On July 7th at 12:19 PM, a fire alarm was triggered in the dining area C1012 due to smoke development in a microwave oven. The alarm required everyone in the atrium to evacuate to the assembly point (the area between Biomedicum and Aula Medica). The evacuation went smoothly, and no material damage or physical injuries occurred.
The fire alarm highlighted the importance of knowing the building's evacuation procedures, and it is therefore recommended to review Biomedicum’s evacuation routines in case of a fire alarm.
In the event of a fire alarm, you should:
- Evacuate if the alarm has been triggered in the quarter/area where you are located. If unsure, check the nearest fire display panel, which shows which areas have active fire alarms.
- During an evacuation, follow the nearest green emergency exit sign. If you are above floor 3, most evacuation routes will lead to a stairwell and down to an emergency exit on floor 2.
- The entrance gates are not evacuation routes due to the risk of injury.
- The building is equipped with smoke detectors that automatically trigger a fire alarm in the presence of smoke.
- In the common areas on floors 3 to 10, as well as in the atrium, evacuation signals are given via a voice alarm in both Swedish and English. Inside the quarters, evacuation signals are given via sirens, and in some blocks, also with flashing lights.
- In the event of an evacuation, the first person to arrive at the emergency station should put on the vest and follow the instructions on the card.
- Evacuation leaders are responsible for checking the premises and informing colleagues that they must evacuate to the assembly point.
No one was physically harmed during the evacuation, and we thank everyone for a calm and orderly evacuation.
