Lectures and seminars Health and Crises in Lebanon - The state of the health care system, attacks on health care and how to continue to educate during armed conflict

The Centre for Health Crises’ welcomes you to a webinar on the current health care situation in Lebanon, with a special focus on attacks on health care and the challenges of providing care, research, and education during conflict.
About the webinar:
Over the past years, Lebanon has faced multiple overlapping crises; economic collapse, COVID-19, the Beirut port explosion, political instability, and repeated armed conflicts. These crises have severely affected the health system, leading to shortages of medicines, staff, electricity, and essential medical supplies. The latest war has further increased pressure on hospitals, health workers, and educational institutions, especially because of the repeated attacks on health care institutions.
In the seminar we will hear from two researchers and medical professionals who work or have recently worked in the health care system and in research in Lebanon. They will share what it means to keep working, keep educating and keep researching, in the face of attacks and shortages in conflict conditions.
Speakers:
- Dr Bahia Abdallah, PhD, MPH, RN, from the Lebanese American University, will speak about the current situation in Lebanon, including ongoing research projects and the challenges of continuing education during war.
- Dr Henrik Jörnwall, PhD, MD, from Karolinska University Hospital, will speak about his experiences of working as an anesthesiologist with Médecins Sans Frontières during the latest war, focusing on emergency care, attacks on health care, and the realities faced by medical staff in conflict settings.
