Lectures and seminars Bites of Learning: Staying Grounded While the World Shifts - Rethinking the Role of the Educator

This session explores how educators can navigate ongoing change while developing grounded and intentional approaches to their role and practice. Louisa Cheung, with a focus on reflective and dialogic learning, together with Amani Eltayb, an educational developer at KI working on curriculum development, active learning, and inclusive education, will lead this Bites of Learning session.
In a rapidly changing world, what does it mean to be an educator today or in 10 years?
The aim of this session is to explore how the role of the educator is evolving in response to rapid technological and societal changes. Drawing on practical insights from the development of a Planetary Health workshop, the session invites participants to consider their own position and responsibilities. Participants will also reflect on questions involving values, judgement, and responsibility in their teaching and learning.
Louisa Cheung is the course director for Frontiers in Translational Medicine within the Master Programme in Molecular Techniques in Life Science, one of the Stockholm Trio programmes. She is also the network coordinator for the award-winning BalticSeaBioMed network and project leader for developing a virtual educational escape room for Biomedical students.
With a background in Science, Technology and Society studies, she is particularly interested in how technological, ethical, and societal challenges intersect, thus influencing teaching and learning practices. Her work focuses on developing reflective and dialogic learning environments that support professional formation.
Moderator: Dr. Amani Eltayb Educational developer at the Unit for teaching and learning at KI. Her work involves consulting on course and curriculum development, training educators in active learning and assessment, promoting internationalisation and inclusivity within health professions education and empowering colleagues through evidence-based educational practices.
