Welcome to a guest lecture on Wednesday 20 May 2026 in Biomedicum, as part of the PhD course in Stress Neurobiology 2026 (CF6086). As a guest speaker, Dr. Schmidt will present on the neurobiological basis of stress resilience, discussing how molecular processes, developmental factors, and environmental influences converge to shape resilience and vulnerability across the lifespan.

Dr. Mathias Schmidt is a leading expert investigating the neurobiology of stress resilience. His work focuses on understanding the molecular and neuroendocrine mechanisms that shape individual differences in stress vulnerability and adaptive responses. His research has made important contributions to elucidating how early life experiences and genetic factors interact to influence the development of the stress system, with a particular emphasis on glucocorticoid signalling, brain plasticity, and resilience mechanisms. Dr. Schmidt has played a prominent role in the field, including serving as President of the European Brain and Behaviour Society (EBBS) and as Secretary General‑Elect of the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS). His work continues to advance our understanding of how stress‑related biological systems contribute to adaptive behaviour and psychiatric risk.
