Don’t miss the chance to nominate qualified candidates and help shape KI’s future. Here, Vice President Martin Bergö explains why your contribution matters.

The academic election process for 2026 has now begun. If you work or study at KI, you will be able to nominate candidates for the positions of dean and deputy dean (corresponding to the current academic vice president) between 17 November and 7 December. In nominating someone in whom you believe and trust, you help to strengthen KI and give a colleague an opportunity to drive the development of education and research at KI.

How can students develop the skills and strategies needed to navigate a world where generative AI is becoming an increasingly common part of their studies? That was the question the Karolinska Institutet University Library (KIB) was tasked with answering resulting in a new web resource on AI. Developed using user experience (UX) methodologies and agile work practices, the resource has been designed to meet the authentic needs of KI students.

The course catalogue for the spring semester of 2026 is now open for applications! Please note that the application period is three weeks, with the final application day being 5 November.

Welcome to the autumn with the University Library! Our calendar is filled with webinars, workshops, KIB Talks and other events. This autumn, we are focusing a little extra on the theme of visualisation, starting with a KIB Talk with Matthias Stahl from DER SPIEGEL! We have also updated our popular in-depth courses in areas such as academic communication, reference management and publishing. In connection with Nobel Calling, we are holding our first (in a long time) exhibition in the library.

In this episode we take a closer look at open science, why it matters, and how it can help us meet some of the major challenges facing research today. With growing concerns about research funding, especially recent cuts in the US that may affect core scientific infrastructure, the need for openness, collaboration, and resilient research practices has never been greater.

Within the national quality assurance system, universities are responsible for initiating and organising external reviews of their educational programmes. KI has decided that all education must undergo an external review every eight years, and this year it is the doctoral education’s turn. KI has only one doctoral education, in medical science, so all departments are affected.

In this episode of the KIB podcast we dig deeper into the academic perspective on AI: How do students use and reflect upon the use of AI in their studies – and how should they?
• How can I use AI to support me in my learning process?
• What’s happening to our brains? (Or to the intended learning outcome?)

A research internship enables doctors on an internship to combine their regular clinical internship (in Swedish Allmäntjänstgöring - AT) with up to 12 months of research at KI. Apart from being eligible for an internship, candidates must also at the time of the application, hold a medical degree and either as a registered doctoral student at KI or a PhD engaged in research at KI.

The library's open events (including the workshop series for researchers and doctoral students) have become more and more presentation or webinar orientated, shorter or longer sessions, with or without Q&A. Under the heading KIB Talks, we have gathered our wide range of workshops, presentations, Q&As, etc. in our various areas of expertise.

KI is launching a new podcast: The PAPERs podcast. Every week you will drop into the conversation between four hosts who discuss articles addressing health professions education. While the content is rigorous, the hosts offer accessible insights with lighthearted style, making this podcast regular listening for many scholars’.

What does continuous learning mean to us, and what can it look like in practice? These questions were the focus for the 170 participants who participated in the two day Educational Congress. The congress was permeated by meetings, inspiration and exchange of knowledge and experiences in the field. Among the activities at the congress, KI's pedagogical policy was launched.

On October 4, the president of Karolinska Institutet appointed academic vice presidents and deputy chairpersons for the three committees that report to the Faculty Board: The Committee for Higher Education, the Committee for Doctoral Education and the Committee for Research. The appointees’ term of office runs from 1 January, 2023, to 31 December, 2025.

A digital 1-day meeting attended by 300 participants brought neuroscience researchers from across Europe together to reflect on both progress to date and plans for the future for the collaborative European University Initiative (EUI) focusing on neurochallenges. Karolinska Institutet is one of eight original parnters.

On 29 May, the government announced that as of 15 June, higher education institutions may return to campus-based teaching. The recommendations issued by the Swedish Public Health Agency for containing the spread of the virus apply as much to HEIs as they do to general society, and require a responsible approach to the planning of a return to campus-based teaching.
