New decision-making and delegation rules from 1 January 2026
Several decisions are now coming into force that aim to create clearer responsibilities and a more cohesive organisation at KI. Among the changes are new bodies and functions, and certain activities being relocated within KI. KI's organisational plan and the President's decision-making and delegation rules have been revised. Further revisions will also be made in 2026.
A review has been carried out within the framework of KI's priority focus areas in 2025 with assignments such as Review of committees and boards ahead of forthcoming election period; Strategic and needs-driven skills supply and Optimised use of premises, infrastructure and facilities.
This has led to decisions that involve revisions to KI's organisational plan and the President's decision-making and delegation procedures. The changes will be implemented in two stages to keep pace with the academic elections that began in 2025 and will continue in 2026. A new structure for the Faculty Board will come into effect on 1 July 2026 and is not covered by this revision, which applies from 1 January 2026.
What do the changes entail?
The current changes include a clearer division of responsibilities and new bodies that strengthen collegial governance and strategic skills supply. Among the new features are the Committee for Ethics and Good Research Practice, assignments for Scientific Ombudsmen and the establishment of a cohesive organisation for research infrastructure (Research Infrastructure KI, RIKI).
Some councils and committees are being phased out, such as the Faculty Council. Activities such as Comparative Medicine (KM) and the University Library (KIB) have been moved within KI's organisational structure. From 1 January, KM will be placed within RIKI and KIB will become part of the Professional Services.
The purpose of the changes is to create a more cohesive organisation and clear mandates for decisions and delegations.
Related pages on KI's website will be updated in accordance with these decisions at the beginning of January.
