The Faculty Board has held its first meeting in KI’s new collegial organisation. The agenda included academic recruitment, quality assurance, research infrastructure and resource allocation.

"At our first meeting, we made decisions, among other things, on who will chair and serve on the Recruitment Committee and the Docent Committee. We also began work on forthcoming strategic recruitments and on starting the process to appoint the Infrastructure Board for the next term of office later this autumn. These are concrete decisions that lay the foundation for KI’s continued work in research and education," says Martin Bergö, who has been the new chair of the Faculty Board since 1 July 2026.

Other issues discussed included how the Faculty Board and the committees should work together, budget frameworks for government grants in 2027, and the autumn’s first Faculty Forum, to which the faculty representatives are inviting KI's researchers and teachers with doctoral degrees on 23 November 2026.

As chair, Martin Bergö leads the work of the Faculty Board and is responsible for ensuring that matters are prepared, discussed and agreed upon. In some cases, tthe Faculty Board may delegate to the chair the authority to make decisions on specific issues, sometimes on condition that the deans are consulted, depending on the area.

“I am pleased that we on the Faculty Board are now moving forward with this important work. Together, we are taking responsibility for ensuring that the most important academic issues for KI are discussed and gain broad support among our colleagues. We would very much like you, as a researcher or teacher at KI, to contribute your perspectives by contacting your faculty representatives,” says Martin Bergö.

The next meeting of the Faculty Board will be held on 27 October in Solna.
