22 new Faculty Representatives appointed
It has now been decided who will take up their posts as new Faculty Representatives of the Faculty Board, the Committee for Higher Education, the Committee for Doctoral Education and the Committee for Research on 1 July 2026. This concludes the academic elections at KI for this round.
- We have now completed the academic elections with great commitment from our staff, in the form of numerous nominations and candidacies from various parts of KI. On 1 July, we will see several of our dedicated colleagues take up important roles as Deans, vice-deans and Faculty Representatives. Collegial influence is a cornerstone of KI – and I am delighted that we are developing the university together. KI is us, says President Annika Östman Wernerson.
Results of the election of Faculty Representatives confirmed and finalised
The election of new Faculty Representatives was conducted electronically between 28 April and 3 May within KI’s Nomination Assembly (NF), which consists of 75 departmental representatives.
The result of the NF’s vote has been confirmed by the University Director. An adjustment of the election results to achieve an even gender distribution has been carried out for the Committee for Higher Education and for the Committee (KU) for Doctoral Education (KFU). The adjustment has been carried out in accordance with the current guidelines for elections to academic posts at Karolinska Institutet.

On 1 July, these Faculty Representatives and previously appointed Deans and Deputy Deans will take up their posts. The term of office runs until 31 December 2029.
The role of Faculty Representatives
The role of Faculty Representatives is, in their capacity as researchers and teachers with doctoral degrees, to contribute their experience, knowledge and a holistic perspective to issues and decisions concerning KI’s education and research. In this way, they help to strengthen KI’s development as a leading medical university.
