Assignment as academic coordinator for Karolinska Institutet’s collaborations with Brazil
Are you interested in contributing to the development of Karolinska Institutet’s (KI) overall collaborations with Brazil, particularly in the São Paulo region?
Strategically, operationally and financially, internationalisation has a great and increasing importance for KI's research and education. To further strengthen relations with Brazil, the Internationalisation Board is appointing an academic coordinator.
KI's collaborations in Brazil
KI currently collaborates with Brazilian universities, research institutes, research funders, and organizations. KI is an active partner in Vinnova’s and the Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation’s strategic action plan for Brazil, playing a crucial role in Vinnova’s plans for Medicine and Health in Brazil. Additionally, KI collaborates closely with the Swedish Embassy in Brasília and Business Sweden in São Paulo.
KI’s collaboration with Brazil has expanded to include a regional perspective, both in Stockholm and São Paulo. This collaboration aligns with Vinnova’s innovation initiatives, aiming to facilitate regional cooperation using the triple-helix model within the field of medicine and health.
It’s important to note that KI’s overarching collaborations evolve over time, and the prioritized institutions/organizations for deeper engagement may change.
Your role
The role of academic coordinator is connected to KI-wide international collaborations, which often include several different activities in higher education, research, and innovation. The purpose of an academic coordinator is to have an appointed representative with academic competence and good knowledge of the collaborations and actors involved who can handle some of the required tasks and contacts.
As academic coordinator, you work in close collaboration with the KI leadership and with the International Relations Office, where the overall cooperation with Brazil is coordinated. You report to the chair of the Internationalisation Board.
The assignment as academic coordinator includes:
- to promote KI’s collaborations at prioritized universities and other organizations in Brazil.
- to find synergies between ongoing collaborative activities and keep in touch with KI employees who are active in the relevant region or have collaboration with relevant institutions or equivalent.
- to contribute to anchoring the collaborations within KI.
- to participate in existing tasks that require academic competence and are related to collaborations in the current region.
- to contribute to an increase in mobility for students, doctoral students and researchers between KI and Brazil.
Who are you?
We are looking for you who have:
- Solid experience in academic leadership
- Employment at KI
- Previous experience with collaboration/contacts in Brazil
- Interest and experience in innovation work
- Proficiency in Portuguese
Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability. An overall assessment of the applicants´ merits will be made.
Scope of the assignment
For an academic coordinator, remuneration is provided according to chapter 3 Remuneration to institution, level IK4A in the table Instructions for remuneration for special assignments.
Travels may occur. The assignment starts 2025-01-01 until 2025-12-31, with the possibility of extension.
