Online platforms have emerged during the last years, making an impact on a job market. Researchers at Karolinska Institutet are investigating how working via online platforms affects health and well-being of freelancers. If you have been working via online platforms for at least three months, you are welcome to participate in this study.
The researchers are looking for workers that work through digital platforms online that are offering freelance services.
Study in brief
Working via online platforms has become common recently. The researchers at Karolinska Institutet want to investigate in a new study how platform work affects health and well-being of freelance-workers. Based on the results of this study, the researchers want to propose recommendations for improving platform workers conditions and health.
The study design
To participate in this study, first you will need to fill in the survey (it takes less than 5 minutes to complete). Then you will be contacted by the researchers' team and invited to participate in the photovoice study. Photovoice study means that you will be taking photos of your work and working day with your mobile phone. Then you will discuss these photos in groups of 6-8 workers like you in 4 or 5 sessions of an hour in person. You will have a possibility to choose the time for the sessions so that it works best for your schedule. After having completed the 4-5 photovoice sessions you will be compensated for your time with 500 kr per session.
Who can apply?
Participating platform workers will have to fulfil the following criteria:
- have been working as platform worker for at least 3 months
- work location in Stockholm
- aged between 18-65 years old
- able to attend to all the photovoice sessions
- speak Swedish and English
- are able to use their mobile phone for taking photos

Processing of personal data
Your personal data is processed for the purposes of this study in accordance with GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation). The data will be analyzed on a group level, handled confidentially and it will be stored in a secure database at Karolinska Institutet. You can terminate your participation in the study at any time.
