Watch the recording of Ebola: from Goma to Stockholm, what can we learn?
If you missed the Centre for Health Crises’ seminar on management and preparedness for Ebola outbreaks, it is now available to watch online. The seminar combined experiences and lessons from the ongoing Ebola outbreak in DR Congo with insights into Sweden's preparedness to receive Ebola patients. Most importantly, it explored what these two perspectives can learn from each other.
The seminar was organised by the Centre for Health Crises and covered several aspects of Ebola care and preparedness. It was attended by over 120 people, online and in person on 27 August at KI. For those who were unable to attend or would like to re-watch it, there is now a recording available online.
It featured presentations by nurse and postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Global Public Health at KI Martina Gustavsson, who has recently returned from working with Ebola care and capacity building with Médecins Sans Frontières in North Kivu in DR Congo. Martina was joined by Hedvig Glans, consultant in infectious diseases and expert coordinator at the Centre for Health Crises. She has previously been responsible for high-level isolation care at Karolinska University Hospital Huddinge, which is part of Sweden’s preparedness for treating Ebola patients. Finally, Klara Sondén, Deputy State Epidemiologist at the Public Health Agency of Sweden and affiliated with research at KI, also presented the agency’s work when it comes to preparedness for Ebola. The seminar was moderated by Anneli Eriksson, nurse and research specialist in global disaster medicine at KI, who herself has worked in several Ebola outbreaks.
Presentations and q&a section available online
The q&a section that followed the presentations was enriched by the fact that the seminar was attended in person by a delegation from the Zimbabwean Public Health Agency, who shared their insights and told the audience more about how Zimbabwe works with Ebola preparedness.
