Research on uveal melanoma - the most common form of eye cancer in adults - at St. Erik Eye Hospital and Karolinska Institutet has been ranked as the fifth best in the world according to the 2024 ranking from ScholarGPS.

The ranking is based on a quantitative method where researchers are assessed based on four main categories: productivity (number of scientific publications), impact (number of citations), quality (h-index) and an overall ranking based on these factors.

Among the individual researchers, Gustav Stålhammar, consultant at St. Erik Eye Hospital and adjunct professor at Karolinska Institutet, is ranked eighth in the world in the field of uveal melanoma research.

"It is of course an honour to receive such a high international ranking. Hopefully, it can contribute to increased attention to our research, where we strive to reduce mortality and morbidity caused by ocular melanoma, by improving both diagnosis and treatment," says Gustav Stålhammar.
