Project Office formed under Professional Services

The new Project Office will coordinate and streamline major projects within KI's Professional Services (PS). The aim is to create better conditions for prioritisation, resource planning and implementation of development projects.
On 1 June, Anna Kilander joined the Project Office as Project Manager. She comes from the HR Office but is now moving to PS-staff with the task of laying the foundations for the Project Office. The office will be a coordinating function that will support PS in the implementation of major projects.
“KI is us, and that is how we need to think about projects. How can we at KI work as efficiently as possible, with as good an overall view as possible, regardless of what projects or activities are involved?” This is how Anna Kilander describes the purpose of the Project Office.
Three initial areas of work
The initial mission of the Project Office is divided into three main areas of work:
- Co-ordinate PS projects
- Inventory and map ongoing projects
- Establish a prioritisation and decision-making process
- Create an overview of the project portfolio
- Support for project managers
- Building networks for PS project managers
- Simplify and support the project model
- Contribute to skills development
- Operational support in larger projects
- Support in feasibility studies and impact assessment
- Contribute to structure and implementation
Next steps
After the summer the Project Office will:
- Contact all project managers within PS
- Inventory how projects are run today
- Establish a network for exchange of experience
- Recruit a new project manager to support larger projects for a year to begin with.
A first meeting with all Heads of Offices is planned shortly, focusing on building a common understanding of ongoing projects and priorities.
"With the Project Office, we are taking an important step towards more coordinated and strategic development work within PS. It gives us better conditions to prioritise correctly and create real value for the whole of KI," says Veronika Sundström, University Director.
