Professor Malin Flodström-Tullberg awarded the Johnny Ludvigsson Prize

Professor Malin Flodström-Tullberg at Karolinska Institutet has been awarded this year’s Johnny Ludvigsson Prize for Outstanding Nordic Researcher. The prize recognizes her groundbreaking research on the mechanisms behind type 1 diabetes.

Professor Malin Flodström-Tullberg, at the Department of Medicine, Huddinge, has been awarded this year’s Johnny Ludvigsson Prize. The prize is given to outstanding researchers in the Nordic countries and acknowledges her significant contributions to understanding how type 1 diabetes develops and progresses.

“Type 1 diabetes is a complex and challenging disease, which makes the research both interesting and meaningful. I strive to find innovative solutions that can stop the development of the disease and help cure those already affected. I feel truly honored. It is a very nice prize,” says Malin Flodström-Tullberg.

Groundbreaking research and significant contributions

Throughout her research career, Malin Flodström-Tullberg has published over 100 scientific articles and contributed to the development of treatments that affect the course of the disease. Her research has focused on mesenchymal stem cells and enteroviruses, leading to new insights and potential treatment methods for type 1 diabetes.

The Johnny Ludvigsson Prize is named in honour of the founder of the Children's Diabetes Foundation, who for decades has been one of the world's leading researchers on type 1 diabetes. The prize money, goes into the projects that the researchers are working on. The winners are selected by the Scientific Council of Barndiabetesfonden.
