Petter Brodin awarded for outstanding research in Paediatrics
Petter Brodin, professor at Karolinska Institutet, is awarded the Oscar Medin's prize 2023 by the Swedish Medical Association (SLS) for his outstanding research efforts in Paediatrics.
In its justification, SLS specifically mentions Petter Brodin's research on hyperinflammation in children with covid-19 infection, the results of which have contributed to an increased understanding of this serious condition.
Petter Brodin is a professor at the Department of Women's and Children's Health, Karolinska Institutet, and researches how our immune system is formed early in life. He also works as a pediatrician at Astrid Lindgren's Children's Hospital, Karolinska University Hospital.
– Receiving the encouragement in the form of Oscar Medin's prize from my colleagues in the Society of Physicians gives me energy to fight on towards new discoveries and hopefully better care in the future, says Petter Brodin in a press release from SLS (N.B. the press release is in Swedish).
About Oscar Medins Award
Oscar Medin's research fund, founded by his widow Gerda Medin, by will in 1945 and handed over to the Swedish Medical Association in 1952, aims to reward "valuable works in Paediatrics written by domestic members of the Swedish Medical Association". The prize is awarded every four years.
