FyFa expands in human physiology - recruitment of one Assistant Professor has started

The department of Physiology and Pharmacology is now taking the next step in its strategic initiative. The department is announcing a position as Assistant Professor (BUL) in human physiology or medicine in extreme environments. In parallel, FyFa is also developing a unique lab for human research, which includes the possibility of patient-oriented studies, and which also strengthens the field of defence-related medicine.
After the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology received the research group in environmental physiology from KTH in September 2024, the department is now taking the next strategic step in further developing FyFa's research in the field of human environmental physiology in extreme environments. The recruitment of an Associate Professor (BUL) in human physiology or medicine in extreme environments has been initiated.

Assistant Professor in Human physiology or medicine of extreme environments
“As part of our strategic work, we are looking for creative qualified candidates to build and lead the future of human physiology, with a particular focus on extreme conditions," says Head of Department Sophie Erhardt.
Advanced Human Lab
Related to the recruitment, FyFa is currently establishing a unique platform for human studies. This human lab will include advanced equipment specifically designed for research in extreme physiology and medicine, such as a human centrifuge, a pressure chamber, a climate chamber and a thermal bath. The investment in the human lab is also part of a future KI investment in defence-related medicine.
“The aim of the BUL recruitment and the investment in a human lab is to strengthen the entire department's activities, where human physiology under extreme conditions is a prioritized and growing research area,” says Sophie Erhardt.
The recruitment is part of a major initiative from KI
The new assistant professor is expected to contribute to the development of research in the field, and to promote collaboration with existing research groups both internally at KI and externally nationally and internationally.
With this recruitment, FyFa participates in a major central initiative where KI recruits 20 prominent researchers early in their careers as Assistant Professors in a wide range of subject areas.
“This is a chance for the winning candidate to join one of the world's top medical universities and to join FyFa in a very exciting time for the department" concludes Sophie Erhardt.
