New webinar series to strengthen researchers’ communication skills

This autumn, the Communications and Public Relations Office is launching PopSci Talks – an open, English-language webinar series for researchers and staff at Karolinska Institutet who want to develop their skills in research communication. The first webinar, taking place in September, will focus on media logic and working with journalists.
The aim of PopSci (Popular Science) Talks is to provide a recurring forum for researchers seeking practical advice and opportunities to discuss how to communicate their research to a wider audience. The format will also make it possible to invite guest speakers and address current topics in research communication.

The new webinar series is inspired by ‘Webbsnack’ (Web Talk), the Communications Office’s forum for dialogue with KI web editors. The ambition is to create an open and interactive format where participants can ask questions, share experiences and gain new perspectives on research communication.
“Many researchers are eager to reach wider audiences with their work but lack opportunities to discuss communication with peers. We hope that PopSci Talks will become a forum for inspiration, knowledge-sharing and discussion about how research can reach more people. In today’s world, making knowledge accessible is more important than ever,” says Science Communications Strategist Katarina Sternudd.
Aimed primarily at researchers
The webinars will be held online during lunchtime and are aimed primarily at researchers, although other interested staff members are also welcome. Each session will consist of a short presentation followed by questions and discussion. The webinars will be offered two to four times per semester.
This autumn’s programme includes webinars on media logic and working with journalists, how KI’s news editors work with news stories and press releases related to scientific publications, and practical tips for writing an effective opinion piece.
Information about dates and the programme will be published regularly in the KI Calendar.
