Mayo Clinic and Karolinska Institutet Mark 30 Years of Collaboration, Set Sights on 2026 Research Meeting

Mayo Clinic and Karolinska Institutet are marking 30 years of collaboration by rescheduling their next joint research meeting to Fall 2026, aiming to focus on cutting-edge themes like RNA therapeutics, precision health, and decentralized care. The event will be held at Mayo Clinic’s Jacksonville campus and is designed to reflect the evolving strengths of both institutions.

In celebration of more than three decades of partnership, Mayo Clinic and Karolinska Institutet (KI) are entering a new phase of strategic collaboration. As part of this renewed focus, the Mayo/KI Steering Committee has announced that the next joint annual research meeting will be rescheduled to Fall 2026, and hosted at Mayo Clinic’s Jacksonville campus.

The extended planning timeline is a deliberate move to craft a more focused and impactful program, aligned with the evolving strengths and priorities of both institutions. While previous meetings have centered on broad topics such as diabetes, cancer, and psychiatry, the 2026 event will highlight five interdisciplinary themes that reflect current scientific and clinical frontiers:

  • RNA and Nucleic Acid-Based Therapeutics
  • Transplant Research and Regenerative Medicine Innovation
  • Cancer, Biorepositories, and Precision Health
  • Innovative and Decentralized Clinical Research Models
  • Distributed and Technology-Enhanced Care Models

To support early engagement, two virtual town halls will take place on September 16 and October 14, 2025. These sessions will allow participants to explore the new themes, initiate cross-disciplinary dialogue, and begin shaping collaborative project ideas.

The Steering Committee encourages all past and current collaborators to reflect on how they might contribute—whether as breakout session co-chairs, research partners, or abstract submitters. The goal is to ensure continuity while embracing innovation, welcoming new voices and perspectives into this long-standing partnership.

“This anniversary is not only a time to honor our history, but a chance to chart a bold new path forward,” said a representative from the Steering Committee. “We’re excited to build on the foundation of our shared work and continue driving impact in science, patient care, and global health.”

Further updates on the 2026 meeting, including abstract submissions and program details, will be shared in the coming months.
