“I have received high-quality support and also developed my own skills”

Kristi Sidney Annerstedt is an Associate Professor in global health at Karolinska Institutet with a focus on health promotion and health equity. Kristi is an experienced mixed methods researcher with strong skills in epidemiological study design, process evaluations, and intervention acceptability. Kristi has had support from Clinicum.
Hi Kristi, tell us what you sought support for from the Clinicum advisors?
“I’ve used the statistical support service several times across a range of needs. This has included supporting my PhD students in projects where I’m the senior author, my own work when I’m leading analyses as first author, and during grant development. Over time, I’ve worked with four different statisticians, each bringing a unique and valuable perspective. My questions have varied widely from how best to approach an analysis, to sense-checking ongoing work, to responding to reviewers’ comments. I’ve also sought guidance on sample size calculations, and most recently, on the design of a large EU grant. It’s an incredibly valuable service that I genuinely appreciate. I would encourage anyone at the university to make use of it”.
How was your experience with the application process and the support you received from your Clinicum advisor?
“The application process is extremely straightforward and efficient. It doesn’t require any additional information beyond what you would already have, which makes it easy to engage with. Given the diversity of my questions and study designs, Clinicum has consistently done an excellent job of matching me with statisticians whose expertise aligns with my needs. In each session, I’ve not only received high-quality support, but also developed my own skills. Each one of the statisticians has taken a very pedagogical approach, clearly explaining their reasoning and guiding us through the process. This means that the service goes beyond immediate problem-solving, but also builds capacity. I’ve often been able to pass on what I’ve learned to my other students, extending the benefit even further”.
Did the advice from Clinicum make you do anything differently in your project compared to what you had planned at the beginning?
“Definitely! Every consultation has resulted in some change! Sometimes small – but sometimes quite large”.
Is there anything you would like to recommend to other researchers who are considering applying for support from Clinicum?
“Just do it. I can't recommend them enough! Also – join your students in the consultation. It makes for a good interaction and really strengthens the quality and process”.
