Hugo Lagercrantz award presented at Astrid Lindgren Children’s Hospital

The Foundation for Child Research at Astrid Lindgren Children’s Hospital recently hosted a ceremonial event to present this year’s Hugo Lagercrantz Award alongside the fall research grants. It was an inspiring gathering that celebrated both groundbreaking research and emerging scientific talent in paediatrics.
Jakob Frie, chair of the Scientific Council, began the event by awarding diplomas to ten selected grant recipients, all conducting important and timely research in child health. Eight recipients were present to receive their diplomas in person. Frie expressed special thanks to the foundation’s donors.
"Without the support of our donors, we wouldn’t be able to award these grants," he said.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of the prestigious Hugo Lagercrantz Award. This year’s award was given to Professor Lena Hellström-Westas, Uppsala University, for her pioneering work in monitoring newborn brain function and diagnosing seizures and brain hemorrhages, which has had a crucial impact on neonatal neurology.
Following the award ceremony, Professor Lena Hellström-Westas also gave a lecture titled Supporting Brain Development in the Neonatal Unit. Her presentation provided valuable insights into her extensive research and current advancements in the care of preterm infants.
The event served as a meaningful tribute to both experienced researchers and new voices in paediatric research and a reminder of the vital role donations play in advancing child health.
