Global Disaster Medicine - Health Needs and Response at the 2023 WADEM congress

Global Disaster Medicine - Health Needs and Response at KI was represented in several ways at this year’s WADEM (the World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine) congress, including with presentations and posters displaying new research conducted by the group.

The World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine (WADEM) is a multidisciplinary professional association, founded in 1976. It gathers members from 55 countries and spans across a variety of academic and professional disciplines. WADEM’s mission is the evidence-based improvement, education, and advocacy of emergency and disaster health care and disaster risk reduction. The annual WADEM congress brings people together to discuss abd learn about the latest trends and topics in disaster medicine, pre-hospital care and the health aspects of emergency management and humanitarian aid.

Several members of the team at Global Disaster Medicine - Health Needs and Response were present at this year’s congress in Killarney on Ireland. In addition to listening and taking part in discussions, the team presented research that has been conducted at the Centre during the last year, including a poster on exploratory laparotomy in an ongoing battle, and a presentation on the use of international Emergency Medical Teams after the Beirut Port Explosion in 2020.
