Thanks to the prestigious prevention grant from the Swedish Heart Lung Foundation, he will further develop a mobile app designed to make it easier for stroke survivors to increase or maintain their physical activity and thereby reduce the risk of recurrent stroke.

For people who have experienced a stroke or a transient ischemic attack (TIA), many studies indicate that those who are physically active have a lower risk of recurrence and severe functional impairment.

”Physical activity is therefore an important part of post-stroke rehabilitation. Unfortunately, there is a gap between knowledge and reality. In Sweden, many patients do have access to physiotherapy during the early phase of stroke rehabilitation, but they are often left without continued support afterward. This is despite the fact that long-term support is often needed to adapt exercise and establish sustainable habits”, says David Moulaee Conradsson, physiotherapist and docent at the Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society, Karolinska Institutet.
