Every one of us can make a difference and together we can improve society and human health. Impact includes social, environmental, cultural or economic benefits from academic research and knowledge.
In addition to research and education, KI’s mission is to interact with the surrounding society. Much of this interaction takes place in the business sector. For KI this entails the commercialisation and utilisation of intellectual property (IP) in order to develop new therapeutic methods and products of benefit to patients.
Karolinska Institutet (KI) offers support service for international researchers and doctoral students. Here you can find all kinds of necessary information for your stay in Sweden and KI.
Karolinska Institutet Career Service

We organize a doctoral course and a financed internship program for doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers. We offer extensive seminars, workshops, lectures and online support.
Karolinska Institutet University Library
The University Library provides support throughout the academic life cycle, from first-year students to senior researchers. On the University Library's website, you can find all the resources and tools that the library offers for research, work or study at KI. KIB is a public library open to everyone.
The Unit for Teaching and Learning facilitates pedagogical and educational development at Karolinska Institutet. Our work includes pedagogical training, pedagogical support for the development of teaching and courses, creating forums for pedagogical dialogue and promoting organisational learning, support for the production of learning materials, and pedagogical infrastructure.
Equal opportunities at Karolinska Institutet
KI's work for equal opportunities means that no one should be discriminated against or harassed because of gender, transgender identity or expression, ethnicity, religion or other belief, disability, sexual orientation or age. For KI it is important to provide an inclusive work and study environment in which all students and co-workers are treated with respect and where the conditions are excellent for working and development.
KI contributes to sustainable development through research, education and collaboration. KI's vision is to promote knowledge about life and strive towards better health for everyone. It includes taking responsibility for the environment and social perspective for both current and future generations.
Karolinska Institutet offers a wide range of core facilities, providing service, recourses and competence to academic research in Sweden. These core facilities were all founded to meet the needs of the university’s own scientists, and they are under constant development to provide the latest techniques and knowledge within their fields of expertise. Karolinska Institutet is also a major partner in several national research infrastructures.
The KI Postdoc Association (KIPA) is a member-driven organisation, which was founded in 2012 to give the postdoctoral community at KI a voice, a supportive network and representation. Our aim is to work closely with KI leadership and administration to achieve the best possible working conditions for KI postdocs, thereby making KI a more attractive place for postdoctoral training in the future.
Junior Faculty is an interest organization of researchers with a PhD but not yet a permanent academic position as lecturer or professor. KI Junior Faculty aims is to promote development of a career system at all levels; through participation in KI boards and dialogue with KI leadership, funding agencies and government. In addition we provide support to junior faculty by organizing seminars, workshops and hearings.
Karolinska Institutet has developed an unique system for innovation support with agents and organisations that in various ways can support the development of ideas and results.
