Bringing Neuroscience to Life: StratNeuro & The Cell Inspire High School Students

On March 11th, 2025, StratNeuro partnered with The Cell at Forskaren to host a dynamic and engaging event as part of Brain Awareness Week (March 10–16, 2025).
We welcomed students from Järva Gymnasium for an afternoon of art, interactive workshops, and neuroscience lectures, offering them a unique opportunity to explore the wonders of the brain in an exciting and hands-on way.
The students began their visit by exploring the latest exhibition at The Cell, immersing themselves in the intersection of art and science. They then participated in an interactive lab workshop, allowing them to experience neuroscience beyond the classroom.
The highlight of the event was a series of engaging talks delivered by KI PhD students, who shared their cutting-edge research in an accessible and interactive way:
- Noa Čemeljić explored the fascinating topic of self-generated touch—why we perceive it differently and why we can’t tickle ourselves.
- Konstantinos Koutsogiannis gave an insightful lecture on the nervous system and the zebrafish’s ability to adapt and regenerate—a true superpower in neuroscience.
- İlknur Şafak Demirel introduced students to brain organoids, small yet powerful models that help researchers study the effects of antidepressants and other drugs. She even brought homemade examples to demonstrate how these mini-brains look in the lab!
The students were highly engaged, asking thoughtful questions and sparking discussions that reflected their curiosity and enthusiasm for neuroscience.
We want to extend a huge thank you to our speakers for their inspiring presentations and to our fantastic collaborators who made this event possible:
- Samira Bouabana for the outstanding coordination and collaboration
- Hanna Qvarnström Thenor for delivering a super interactive workshop
- Wei Li for valuable assistance in the lab
- Laura Sardon Puig, StratNeuro Coordinator, for leading the organization of this initiative
This event was a testament to the power of science outreach and education, and we are thrilled to have shared the excitement of neuroscience with the next generation of learners. Thank you to everyone who participated—we look forward to continuing to bring neuroscience closer to the community!
